Puerto Calero – Puerto del Carmen

Take the express waterbus to Puerto del Carmen o Puerto Calero and enjoy both towns!

Duration: 20min

Puerto del Carmen is one of the most important destinations in the Canary Islands and Lanzarote benchmark since the 60s, when his small fishing center developed tourist. The name of the town honors the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors whose church can visit the square next to the Varadero, the where our waterbus docks.

The Varadero, is the heart of Puerto del Carmen. The fishing pier where we can see even today a dynamic activity of local fishermen. It is also a place where locals gather almost daily to show their skills in traditional bola Canaria. Be sure to stroll through the craft market and local produce stalls on Fridays from 10h to 16h.

What do we recommend in Puerto del Carmen?

Beaches: We suggest strolling along the seafront and walk more than 6 km of sandy beaches and calm waters of Puerto del Carmen.

Very close to the pier is Playa Chica, a small protected Natural Lava Creek ideal for children to enjoy and one of the most spectacular seabeds of Europe. Maybe try to do your first scuba dive or snorkel in this a paradise for lovers of the sea depths.

Here you find the Playa Grande, the most central and equipped with the best services. There are sports areas, playgrounds, showers and rescue services as well as umbrellas and sunbeds. It is also adapted for the disabled and available to customers who previously requested service of amphibious chairs for access to the sea (for reservations call +34 627 547 890)

Other beaches: Pocillos, Barranquillo, la Peñita, Matagorda

Shopping: In parallel to the coastline extends the Avenida de las Playas, a wide promenade where there is, on the one hand, all kinds of tourist services, shops, cafes and restaurants, places of recreation and entertainment, and on the other hand, kilometers of quiet beaches. Very close to the pier is also the Biosphere Plaza Shopping Centre with many shops of international brands.

For children: No doubt we recommend families to enjoy the most complete theme park Lanzarote Rancho Texas Park. It has large recreation areas with gardens, waterfalls and water area with pools and slides. Exhibition of exotic animals and other attractions where you can spend an unforgettable day large and small.

Culture and tradition: just 5 kms from Puerto del Carmen you have Tías which has a rich and varied range of shops and numerous restaurant and has a reputation as an excellent dining destination. You can arrive by taxi or local bus lines (134 and 234).

Among the must visits in Tias we recommend visiting the Museum of the Nobel Prize for Literature José Saramago, in love with Lanzarote and resident in this town during the last years of his life.
